Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Land Information Systems (LIS) are based upon survey and mapping technologies that provide a geographical spatial display of both natural and man-made features of an area. GIS/LIS also includes other data, information and attributes associated with these features. GIS/LIS uses data from the Global Positioning System (GPS), aerial photography and conventional land surveying and mapping in its development of a digital terrain midel (DTM) . This DTM and associated information is compiled into a query-able database. As such, GIS/LIS is essentially a full service spatial information management systems consulting application. Typical uses of GIS/LIS include-- topographic and hydrographic surveying, domestic and international grid networks, data-capture digitizing, data conversion, census data importation, parcel mapping, emergency 911 fire/rescue quick routing, tax mapping and folio data capture, voter precinct districts, and surface and underground mapping, among others
