Electronic safety apparatus and downloadable software installed on a vehicle, such as a school bus, and configured to use multiple cameras mounted on the vehicle to acquire video images of a traffic scene during a period when a stop arm or stop lights on the vehicle are activated, interpret the images to detect and track other vehicles approaching the vehicle, measure the approaching vehicles’ speed, determine whether the approaching vehicles stop, and track, record, and transmit identifying information related to the approaching vehicles that violate stop arm or stop light regulations
