passive fiber optomechanical switching systems comprised of a non-powered switch, fiber optic cable, and a remote transceiver, the transceiver transmitting light through the cable to the switch and receiving light reflected by the switch through the cable, detecting the position of the switch based upon the light so received, and controlling an electrical device based upon the detected position of the switch, the foregoing for use in land, sea, air and space vehicles, non-medical machinery, residential structures and commercial facilities and operations
