A magnesium-air fuel cell, namely, a device having a structure incorporating a magnesium anode, a cathode material, salt water as electrolyte, and air, where the fuel cell produces an electrical current which is proportional to the rate of loss of the sacrificial anode material, where the rate of loss of the sacrificial anode material is determined by the electrical load connected to the fuel cell
