System comprising computer hardware and software for (a) monitoring operational parameters of a computer network data tape library, the library moving computer data tape cartridges between storage locations and tape recording/playback devices, and (b) taking action if the value of a monitored operational parameter enters a range within which the continued operation of the computer network data tape library is likely to be compromised.
