Alert systems composed primarily of ultra-wide band radios, electronic sensors and control modules for detecting potentially dangerous or important conditions on or near a railroad, for detecting dangerous environmental conditions, for preventing derailments and collisions between railway vehicles or trains, for maintaining safe operating and optimal distance between trains, for precision berthing of trains, and for protection of roadway workers; all the foregoing for the purpose of facilitating train control functions to increase productivity and operational efficiency in the transit and railway industries
